"The Funky One truly has a knack for concise, incisive content that cuts down the middle, showing little regard for established party lines. He shows the world through a Christian lens while still questioning inconsistencies in the mainstream of the religion...Whatever the content is, he generally comes up with something to challenge or enhance my mindset on politics and religion."Howard H., the smedley log -

random thought of the moment:
So far as a man may be proud of a religion rooted in humility, I am very proud of my religion; I am especially proud of those parts of it that are most commonly called superstition. I am proud of being fettered by antiquated dogmas and enslaved by dead creeds (as my journalistic friends repeat with so much pertinacity), for I know very well that it is the heretical creeds that are dead, and that it is only the reasonable dogma that lives long enough to be called antiquated.

Is the War in Iraq Just?
Rob at UnSpace asks an interesting question. He wonders if the following quote from Dick Cheney clashes with just war theory.“He’d done it [created WMD] before,” Cheney said. “He had produced chemical weapons before and used them. He had produced biological weapons. He had a robust nuclear program in ’91.”The U.S. invasion “was the right […]

Charitable Interpretation
Harmonious interaction between bloggers, particularly Christian bloggers, is very important to me. Blogs have tremendous potential for bringing folks of diverse backgrounds together. They can also contribute to fracturing the Body Christ. One courtesy I ask of my commenters is to use "interpretive charity" (aka charitable interpretation). It means, among other things, that we […]
Investigating NFP: Pius XII
Thisentryis part 3 of 11 in the series Investigating NFP Click here to read the previous post in this series. I have recently come to the (re)realization that bishops are the authoritative teaching body of the Church. As such, it is their responsibility to properly and effectively teach such sticky subjects as the regulation of […]

It's time to get our hands dirty by digging into the writings of recent popes to find out what they had to say about contraceptive issues. Let's start with Pius XI's 1930 Casti Connubii, which was […]
