Catholic Divorce

Annulment is far too easy in most major nations. That strikes me as just a pernicious a scandal to the Church as priestly misconduct. In fact, it may be worse. It’s subtler and more insidious. It has become Catholic DivorceTM and misrepresents the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony to the world. What ever happened to "till death do us part"? If you can’t take the heat, stay out of the kitchen.

It’s Called Vibrate Mode

Cell phones ringing during Mass is a major pet peeve. Worse yet is when someone
either lets it ring without turning it off or actually answers it and proceeds to
talk and not leave the room. Mexican churches are disregarding
law to avoid these problems
. I’m not sure two wrongs make a right here, but
I can’t help but cheer the churches on.

It’s Official

The Anglican Church has jumped the shark.

Anglican Church agrees to reality-TV program ‘Priest Idol’

The Anglican Church in England has jumped into the fray of reality TV in the hopes of reviving a dying church.

The Church of St. Mary Magdalene, Lundwood in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, has a congregation of only nine, mainly aging, regular worshippers. It hopes that by participating in a new reality TV program on Channel 4, called Priest Idol, it will be able to attract a new vicar who can fill up the church pews.

Lingering Hope

A while ago I wondered aloud if anyone was keeping track of Bishops’ positions on granting/refusing communion to pro-abortion politicians. It seems my wish has been partially granted. Episcopal Spine Alert "was created to recognize and show appreciation for Catholic clergy who have provided the laity with signs of hope, courage and renewal of orthodoxy". They keep a list of strong-spined bishops.

In a similar vein, what the cardinals really believe "wants to make accessible that information about a Cardinal which gives an insight into his mind. It helps you to track down his key pronouncements, decisions and actions in order to understand who he is and what can be expected from him."
