    Ya know, it was back in the 1st half of the 19th century that many (most perhaps) protestant churches split, over the issue of slavery, into Southern and Northern branches. I wonder if we're seeing something similar here. Of course, the Catholic Church isn't too into splitting, but there is a similar effect when Bishops fail to vigorously defend inviolable pronouncements from Rome.

    I like what Fr. Neuhaus (a most unlikely U2 fan) said in response to Bono's attribution of Catholic Guilt in his work for 3rd World debt relief: "Let's here it for guilt!"
