My Stand on Miers

This post is an answer to N.Z. Bear’s call for blogger’s positions on Harriet Miers.

I oppose the Miers nomination.

She’s not qualified for the job. I’d much prefer a constitutional expert, with or without bench experience, or an experienced judge. My opinion is irrespective of her opinions regarding santity of life, homosexual marriage, etc. A competent interpreter is more important to me than a judge who thinks Roe V. Wade should be overturned (or at least given tighter parameters).

Strife in St. Blog’s

I've a lot of abusive posts and comments in St. Blog's Parish of late and it really bothers me. Normally when Christians are at each other's throats I point out Galatians 5:13-15. However, a reading from a recent daily mass caught my eye.

"Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you." – Ephesians 4:29-32

I don't want point out splinters in my brothers eyes when I carry a log in my own, so I'll not mention by name or link who the offenders are. I can only hope they read this post and get the message.

BTW, Richard Hall seems to be thinking similar things about Christian bloggers in general.

"[F]or every person that shouts 'Amen!' there's another shouting 'No way!' The Body of Christ is divided and weakened. ('Can the eye say to the hand, I don't need you?') If we fall out of fellowship with one another, we all lose."

GodBlogCon: *Yawn*

So the GodBlogCon started a few days ago. Big fat hairy deal. It’s a mutual admiration society for Calvinistic Evangelical Republicans*. I really don’t think it’s going to make any real impact within the blogosphere, let alone without. It certainly won’t do anything to help Godbloggers break out of their ghetto.

If you’re about as enthused about GBC as I am, you might find Mean Dean’s mock coverage interesting.

* I have no beef with the participants, just the bias in speaker selection.

Update 10/09/06: Unfortunately, blogs4god is no more and all that’s left of these behind-the-scenes posts must be found in Google’s cache.

Being a Blogfather

Ever take a look at Blogtree? It’s a neat concept that combines two of my passions, blogging and genealogy. When you submit your blog you tell the service which blogs inspired you to start blogging. In turn, you are told who your sibling blogs are and who was inspired to blog because of you.

I know I’ve gotten a few folks into blogging, including Fr. Michael Darcy, Shaun “Powerball” Pierce, and John “Publius” Thompson. Thus far, though, nobody has credited me at Blogtree.

If I’ve inspired to blog by reading mine, please let Blogtree know, or at least leave a comment saying so. I’m not looking for notoriety, but knowing you’ve inspired someone is a good feeling. Also, following someone’s blogging pedigree is a neat way of being exposed to new blogs. 🙂
