Saint Philip Neri

Today is the feast day of Saint
Philip Neri
. He founded the Oratorian order, to which Venerable
John Henry Newman
belonged. The “parish” I attend is the Ryan
Catholic Newman Center
, an oratory.

The
Litany of Saint Philip
, by Newman, posted on A Catholic Blog for Lovers.

There’s a Newman post on Pontifications.

A friend of mine
is a member of the Little
Oratory
, so she posts quite a bit about Neri, particularly today.

Accustomed to Error

So people have gotten used to a bad translation. So what? Granted, the draft of the new mass needs some work to overcome some "clunky" wording, but that’s the not the point. The mass needs to be translationally and theologically correct before it is "comfortable".

Priests predict possible backlash against new Mass text

"A forum of priests on a national radio program has suggested the draft text of changes to the Mass creates a distance between the priest and the people, and it could alienate Catholics who have grown up with liturgy in the vernacular."

Keystone of Society

“Love is patient and kind; love is not jealous or boastful; it is not arrogant
or rude. Love does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful;
it does not rejoice at wrong, but rejoices in the right. Love bears all things,
believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.” –

Love
and Genes Can Beat Poverty -Study

Wed May 26, 6:15 AM ET

LONDON (Reuters) – Love and genes can overcome even the most abject poverty, according
to a study into the effects of environmental factors on child development.

The study of 1 116 mothers and their five-year-old same-sex twins in poor households in England and Wales found that poverty did not have to be a life sentence and the right combination of parental care and genetics could triumph over adversity.

Crazy Times

It’s good to see that the New York Times is holding itself corporately responsible
for negligent reporting. It bothers me, though, that they focused so narrowly on
mistakes in favor of the Bush administration. It’d be nice to see admission of mistakes
in favor of liberal groups.

The
Times and Iraq

“Over the last year this newspaper has shone the bright light of hindsight on decisions
that led the United States into Iraq. We have examined the failings of American
and allied intelligence, especially on the issue of Iraq’s weapons and possible
Iraqi connections to international terrorists. We have studied the allegations of
official gullibility and hype. It is past time we turned the same light on ourselves.”

Reveals U.S. Media Leans Left, Blind to Own Bias

Pew Research Casts Doubt on Media Objectivity Myth
By Fred Jackson and Jenni Parker

“(AgapePress) – A new poll of the nation’s journalists is providing more alarming
evidence that the vast majority of them hold extreme liberal bias and are far less
conservative than the general public.”
