Who's Checking Whom?

"Regardless of the emotion and political activism that led to Bush pushing 'Terri's ,' there is a system of checks and balances in place to ensure that no one person makes a decision that could be a matter of life and death."

Isn't that the power Michael Schiavo wants? Anybody want to respond to this Pitt News op ed?

The system of checks and balances ensuring that "no one person makes a decision that could be a matter of life and death" applies only to the government, and not to private citizens. The op-ed specifically states that the case is about the power of Governor Bush, not the rights of Michael or Terri Schiavo.

My concern is that if the government is kept out of the Schiavo case, Michael would get his way. I don't think Terry's "husband isn't wrong" or that he "is convinced his wife would not want to be kept on a feeding tube".

If that was me on the feeding tube I'd want my wife to pull it out and get on with her life.
