PA lawmakers have repealed unconstitutional pay raise they gave themselves.

I've been following this, and I've noticed that even though they repealed the raise, too many of the culprits are still making excuses, suggesting that they're not repealing the raise because they understand it was wrong, but because they understand the voters are really ticked off over it.
The result, for the time being, is fine, but my representative, for one, is still reminding me of a child who stays away from the cookie jar, not because he knows he should, but because he's afraid of being punished for it.
There's too much of a grudging acceptance of the will of the voters.

Posted 17 Nov 2005 at 6:05 am ¶To put this in Catholic terms, the repealment is a lot like imperfect contrition, which is the contrition that results from a fear of Hell rather than from a desire to conform to God's will. Not that I'm surprised; these guys are politicians. I was unsurprised when I heard about the pay raise in the first place. I met Rob Wonderling a few years ago, in high school. I was surprised to hear his answers to students' questions; he could slither out of tough questions just as well as any veteran national politician.
