The Great Divide

I’m seem to be in a quiz-taking mood these days.

The Slate has an interesting quiz that tells you how
red or blue you are
(in the political sense). As expected, I came out in the
middle. That’s OK, I guess. My favorite color is purple, anyhow.

BTW, when taking the quiz, you’ll likely be presented with names and concepts you’re
unfamiliar with. Resist the temptation to Google them. Which wrong answers you pick
are as important as your right answers.

Slaves to the DNC

I wish Bill Cosby
would speak out against Kweisi Mfume. Mr. Mfume basically says that blacks can’t
think for themselves and vote their principles if those principles aren’t rabid
liberalism.

Mfume
calls black conservatives puppets

Conservative black organizations are formed and funded by white Republicans, NAACP President Kweisi Mfume said yesterday in an address to a packed ballroom at the group’s annual convention here.
“When the ultraconservative right-wing attacker has run out of attack strategy,” Mr. Mfume said, “he goes and gets someone that looks like you and me to continue the attacks.”

Paraphrasing a line from a 2002 speech by NAACP Chairman Julian Bond, he said, “And like the ventriloquist’s dummies, they sit there in the puppet master’s voice, but we can see whose lips are moving, and we can hear his money talk.”
In a speech punctuated by cheers from the audience, Mr. Mfume said: “They can’t deal with the leaders we choose for ourselves, so they manufacture, promote and hire new ones.”

And the NAACP wonders why Bush wouldn’t speak at their gathering.

More Flip-Flops Than a Fish on Land

…or John Kerry

I’ve heard several people claim that Arlen Specter must have changed his position
on the FMA, based solely on his cloture vote. I’ve heard this from outraged homosexuals
as well jubilant conservatives. I think both have been duped.

Specter knew darn well that the motion to vote on the amendment would fail to get
the 60 necessary votes. His “Yea” for the cloture vote was an attempt
to win back conservative voters. The primary against Toomey was too close for Specter’s
comfort. By voting yes in the cloture, he appeared to want to stop liberal filibustering
and to change his stance on the FMA. Since there’s was a snowball’s chance of it
passing, he could safely lend the appearance of support. Now he can fool both liberal
and conservative supporters. To the left he says, “I wouldn’t have voted for
the amendment.” To the right he says, “See? I voted yes in the cloture!”
Specter’s name should be Janus.

This Land is Hosed

The folks at JibJab.com have a hilarious parody of “This
Land is My Land
” that pokes fun at both Bush and Kerry. Thanks, Bluesnews.
NOTE: There is a brief crude moment that mars an otherwise family-friendly video.

P.S. Does anyone else think the voice impersonation for Kerry sounds like Link Hogthrob
from the Muppet Show skit Pigs in Space?

Keep Your Head

I’ve known some very peaceful and amicable practitioners of Islam. I’ve been told
that the Koran does not advocate violence. I haven’t read the Koran myself, so I
have to take their words for it. Based on this “bias”, it bothers me greatly
when people call Islam evil and fail to recognize that Allah is just as much the
God of Abraham as YHVH is (though Jews and Christians would take issue with Islamic
worship).

A GetReligion
post
tackles the issue of Islamic beheadings. It is of particular interest to
me because a contributor to the post writes for the Pittsburgh
Post-Gazette
. In what I’ve read, Ann Rodgers has always covered the Catholic
Church honestly and fairly.
