My 15 Nanoseconds of Fame

Some of you may recall that I mentioned an interview I would be taking part in. Well, it’s now available for all to listen. 🙂 On April 11, Mike Woycek of Pittsburgh Webloggers (and Grabass) interviewed me and Rob of Unspace. We talked about two prominent deaths in the news, Pope John Paul II and Terri Schiavo. I’m not thrilled with the sound of my voice and I’m not sure I’m cut out for on-the-fly apologetics, but it was a pleasant experience on the whole. Mike and Rob seem like great guys and I hope to interact more with them in the near future.

What are you still doing here? Go listen to me pontificate. 😉

Update: Rob has a superb explanation of the whole experience, from soup to nuts. Rather than reinvent the wheel and write one of my own, I’ll just suggest you read Rob’s account. His blog is worth a read anyhow. 😉 On a side note, don’t let him fool you – he can certainly hold his own in a discussion/debate. Just wait until you hear my arguments get eviscerated by him in the Terri Schiavo segment. 😉

Update: Part 2 can be found here.

Bye, Bye, Marty

June 22, 2005

I still get a number of hits to my post about the firing of Christian talk show host Marty Minto. I never quite finished it because I got tied up in more important things, so I decided to come back and do just that. For those interested, the original entry can be found in its entirety (misspellings, bad grammar, and all) here.

Pittsburgh Pride

One of the fellas who helps out with the RCIA program at the Pittsburgh Oratory, Bob McCarthy is an author. I thought it’d be cool to give him some free publicity. Check out his books, Dualessence and Song of Autumn. Let me know if you read either book. I’m sure he’d be thrilled to get some feedback. 🙂

Since I’m promoting one Pittsburgher, I might as well promote another (though I haven’t met this one). CNN has an article on one of the best rock-n-rollers you’ve never heard of.

Happy Saint David’s Day!

Welsh flagToday is the feast of Saint
David
. St.
David
is the patron saint of Wales and his day is celebrated much like St. Patrick’s
is in Ireland. Why am I telling you this? Well, I’m descended from the Welsh. 🙂

In 1683, William ap John, a Quaker, left Merionethshire, left Wales aboard the Morning
Star with his wife Ann Reynolds and his children John, Alice, Katherine and Gwen.
William was an original purchaser of property in Merion (Delaware County, PA) and
Goshen (Chester County, PA) from William Penn. William either died on board or shortly
after arriving in Pennsylvania. John (born in 1670) inherited the land, sold some
of it, and settled on the rest with his wife, Ellen Klinken, whom he’d married at
Germantown Friends meeting in 1696. John anglocized his name to become John Williams.
The rest, as they say, is history. If you’d like to known more about my family’s
genealogy, check out my
cousin’s family tree page
. 🙂

Here’s a St. David’s Day recipe for you: potato
leek soup

David’s Society of Pittsburgh

article about the Welsh heritage room
that will soon be added to the Cathedral
of Learning.
