The Thrill is Gone

Some people seem
to be shocked
that “The Passion of the Christ” didn’t start a massive
wave of lasting Christian fervor across the country. I say to them, “Duh!”
People took from the movie what they took in (much like “Fahrenheit 9/11”).
If you expected anti-Semitism, that’s what you saw. If you expected a moving work
of religious art, that’s what you saw. If you expected sado-masochism, that’s what
you saw. I wouldn’t expect a movie like “The Passion” (lots of imagery,
little commentary) to convert someone any more than I would expect a painting to.

This month's Gilbert Magazine (a magazine devoted to G. K. Chesterton) has a good little short piece called "Bad Christian Journalism and the G. K. Chesterton Remedy," by J. Fraser Field. Field starts with an example of what he considers "Bad Christian Journalism."

True Gospel?

More on sheep stealing:

The Agape Press says that "residents of the Central American nation are hungry for the true gospel". What’s implied here is that Catholicism doesn’t teach the true Gospel. Sometimes Evangelicals really drive me nuts.

Jesus He Knows Me

Benny Hinn is bad for Christian PR and people's faith, and now some have suggested that his shenanigans be stopped on legal grounds.

Archbishop comments on lure of unscrupulous evangelists

In the wake of publicity associated with a "crusade" to be led by American tele-evangelist Benny Hinn in Brisbane later this month, the city's Archbishop John Bathersby has said he is "disappointed" by people attracted by signs and wonders holding unreal expectations.
