Kerry’s Flock

“The Archdiocese of Boston ‘does not hold to the practice of publicly
refusing Communion to anyone,’ said archdiocese spokesman Rev. Christopher
Coyne. He said it was up to the individual to decide whether to receive Communion.”

Uhh…Let’s translate that from beaurocratese. “The Archdiocese of Boston does
not hold to the practice of following Canon Law or instructions from the Vatican.”

Kerry’s
Church Known for Liberal Stances

By JENNIFER PETER, Associated Press Writer

“BOSTON – The sanctuary where Sen. John Kerry (news – web sites) regularly
receives Communion attracts Catholics uncomfortable with some of the Vatican (news
– web sites)’s orthodox teachings or who otherwise feel alienated from the Roman
Catholic Church.”

Daft to Draft

Following up an earlier entry…

Rumsfeld
Sees No Need for Military Draft

Thu Apr 22, 2:52 PM ET
By ROBERT BURNS, AP Military Writer

“WASHINGTON – The Bush administration sees no need to reinstate the military
draft, but it is pushing for improved Pentagon (news – web sites) management of
the 1.4 million-strong force in order to meet wartime needs, Defense Secretary Donald
H. Rumsfeld said Thursday.”

So where are the additional troops coming from? We’re getting spread pretty thin.
Also, Rummy didn’t see fit to send enough troops to Iraq to get the job done right
in the first place.

McCain
Says U.S. Needs 10,000 More Troops in Iraq

Thu Apr 22, 6:59 PM ET
By Carol Giacomo, Diplomatic Correspondent

“WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The United States needs at least 10,000 more troops
in Iraq (news – web sites) and must curb domestic spending to pay for the war, John
McCain, a Republican senator and former rival of President Bush (news – web sites),
said on Thursday.”

Grim Specter

By the way, Specter is responsible for the infamous (and ridiculous) “magic
bullet” theory of JFK’s assassination.

High
Stakes in the Specter-Toomey Race

By Paul Kengor
April 22, 2004

“(AgapePress) – On Tuesday, Pennsylvania Republicans like myself will cast
a ballot for either long-time senator Arlen Specter or three-term congressman Pat
Toomey. The winner will secure the Republican nomination for the U.S. Senate and
take on the Democratic nominee in November. Specter is probably the Senate’s most
liberal Republican, representing the old Northeast/Rockefeller-wing of the GOP.
Toomey is a conservative, in the mold of the Reagan wing that today dominates the
party.”

Draft Card Bar-B-Que Anyone?

After reading this article I was in shock. Angry doesn’t begin to describe how I
feel. People that opposed this war from the beginning, such as myself, should be
exempt from a draft, should there be one. All the war-mongers who wanted this should
“bear some responsibility and pay some price”. Don’t write a check your
ass can’t cash.

While I’m on my soapbox, I’m going to make an outrageous suggestion. If Mr. Hagel
really wants to “spread the burden of military service in Iraq more equitably
among various social strata”, women should be eligible for the draft. Just
think of how the Republicans could endear themselves to the womyn’s lib movement
if they added equal responsibility to equal rights and opportunities.

Senator
says US may need compulsory service to boost Iraq force

Tue Apr 20, 1:24 PM ET

“WASHINGTON (AFP) – A senior Republican lawmaker said that deteriorating security
in Iraq (news – web sites) may force the United States to reintroduce the military
draft.”
