Vultures Capitalize on Katrina

This is just disgusting. May God give me to strength to forgive these
vultures’ trespasses as He forgives mine.

Hurricane Katrina has spawned more than misery and
destruction–a new wave of scam e-mails and Web sites are exploiting the
tragedy
. Phony Web sites and e-mails, purporting to offer help to
hurricane victims or provide more news on the destruction, are making
their rounds on the Internet, security experts said Thursday.

I pray these scammers are caught and sentenced to many months of
disaster relief work.

Art and the “Jesus Event”

An artwork that shows Star Wars characters nailed to crosses has sparked controversy before its public debut at a Melbourne gallery in two weeks. The Herald-Sun reports that the controversial piece called Crusci-fiction consists of a roomful of 25 replicas of robot C3P0 hanging on crosses.”

At first I didn’t react very strongly to this story. I just rolled my eyes and chalked it up as just another example of hateful garbage masquerading as art. It’s not the first nor will it be the last we’ll see. I’d rather these craptastic works of modern “art” not be inflicted upon the world, but I see them as inevitable. After all Christ siad, “If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. Remember the word that I said to you: ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will also keep yours. But all these things they will do to you on account of my name, because they do not know him who sent me.” (John 15:18-21)

What really caught my interest in this article was the difference between the Catholic and Anglican response.

Prayer and Information Request

My sister, a member of the National Guard, asked me to request prayers and information
on behalf of am Army Reserve friend of a hers from basic training. Since Katrina
hit the Gulf Coast, my sister has been trying to reach Teresa Export to no avail.
She is worried about her safety and that of her child.

She’s a 20-something black woman, approximately 5’7″ tall with an average build.
Her son, Deondre is around 1 year old. Last my sister knew, they were living in
Hattiesburg, Mississippi. I know that’s not exactly rare combination, but I figure
we have nothing to lose by trying. If anyone has any information about Teresa Export,
please email me.

If you are of the praying sort, please remember Teresa and Deondre in your intentions.

Update 09/05/05: Teresa contacted my sister yesterday. She and her son are
fine. She didn’t give any details (such as whether she fled before the storm or
endured it). I’ll let you folks know when I know more. Thanks for all the prayers.
