For Bulk E-Mailer, Pestering Millions Offers Path to Profit
By MYLENE MANGALINDAN

"DUNEDIN, Fla. — The sun was setting on Laura Betterly’s six-bedroom house as she reviewed a pair of outgoing e-mail messages one last time. Satisfied, she moved her cursor to the ‘send’ icon and clicked.

‘It’s that simple,’ Ms. Betterly said triumphantly, swiping her palms. She had just dispatched e-mail messages to 500,000 strangers. Half saw the subject line: ‘Don’t miss your chance to win 2002 Lexus RX300.’ The other half saw: ‘Win a trip to Nascar!’"

Drive-by Spamming

This really pisses me off. This kind of stuff should really be illegal. Just because a port is open, doesn’t give you a right to spam it. That’s like tossing junk mail through someone’s open window.

Spammers slip ads through Windows
By Robert Lemos

“Spammers have co-opted an administration feature in Microsoft’s Windows operating systems and are using it to bring up intrusive advertisements on Internet-connected computers.”

State debuts its ‘do-not-call’ list
The aim is to provide protection from those pesky telemarketers

Linda Och of Knoxville was thrilled yesterday to put her name on the new statewide “do not call” list. It means that she no longer has to screen her telephone calls to avoid those annoying telemarketers. She had been getting as many as 30 calls a day. One came on Christmas Eve. She said a phone salesman lured her into a credit card scam that cost her $400. Never again. “We’re all victims of telemarketers, I think,” she said as she registered her phone number on the do-not-call list. “This is the best thing since sliced bread. I’m thrilled.”

To complement this wonderful service, we need the following:

  1. the other 49 states to follow suit
  2. a “Do Not Email” list to deter unsolicited email marketing spam
  3. a “Do Not Snail Mail” list – see above

How Can Ya Have Spam, Spam, Spam, Spam, Real Email, and Spam without the Spam?!?

Spammers ought to be subjected to Chinese water torture, drawn and quartered, and castrated with a dull spoon. I lump them in with telemarketers, people who rob old ladies, people who steal candy from babies, televangelists, rednecks, and other undesirable members of society. Sure, we all have our faults, but sometimes I can’t help but feel spammers are a waste of oxygen and other valuable resources.

Can ya tell I’m pissed? 😉

Spam: Has it become a stalemate?

Office Politics

I hate office politics. I hate walking on eggshells for people. I don’t try to intentionally offend people, but if not making their email high priority wrinkles their panties, tough. I’ll send a memo about the pity party I’m throwing.

Spam filter a career killer?

"A meeting reminder from the boss, a lascivious letter from a lover, or the daily tally from a fantasy football league: Which e-mail would you read first?"
