Pro-Eugenics Candidate Running for Congress Again

A Republican candidate for Congress in 2004, repudiated by the GOP for his support of eugenics and talk of “favored races,” has again made it onto the ballot in Tennessee. But evidently not for long. James L. Hart, 62, who marched with Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke, will be the subject of a Republican Executive Committee meeting March 25 for a vote on whether he is a “bonafide Republican,” or should be stricken from the ballot in Tennessee’s Eighth Congressional District. Hart won 8,227 votes in the Republican primary election in 2004 and went on to collect 59,853 votes in the general election won by incumbent Rep. John Tanner, D-Tenn., with 173,623 votes.

This
guy won’t do anything to help the Republican party’s reputation as being the
“rich white guy” party. I’d like to see him debate Alan Keyes.

Oh Brother

Brother is one of my favorite bands. I've been addicted to their soulful, tribal, celtic, mongrel music since 1996, when I first saw them at Pittsburgh's Irish Festival.

The following is from an email the band sent to fans tonight.

Our touring for the next few months will involve an awareness and fund raising campaign for stem cell research. We plan to cover as much of the country as possible. Most of you know the work we do with childhood diabetes. This is something that could eventually provide a cure for not only diabetes, but many other ailments. The campaign is about clearing up a lot of misinformation on the subject. If you are part of an organization involved in this area and think you can be of any help let us know (email info@BROTHERmusic.com).

I'm hoping that they don't mean embryonic stem cell research, but I'm not holding my breath. I encourage my pro-life readers, especially those who are fans of the band, to please write a polite email to the band suggesting they not support embryonic stem cell research.

Jerry Nora, if you're reading, please give me info about the bioethical background of stem cell research (all forms), so I can pass the info to my readers and the band.

Mawwage

"Mawwage. Mawwage is what bwings us togethew today. Mawwage, that bwessed awwangement, that dweam within a dweam. And wove, twue wove, wiww fowwow you fowevah…So tweasuwe youw wove,…" – The Impressive Clergyman

Today I watched a beautiful Ukrainian Catholic Divine Liturgy in which my friend, and occasional cohort in blogging crime, Jerry Nora, entered into the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony. I wish him and his wife, Krystia, all the happiness in the world. May God bless them with a marriage that sanctifies them, unifies them, and provides them with many children.

Due to in part to this blessed event, I have a mildly polemical point to make. Continue reading

Taking Sides

So, the bishops of Atlanta, Charlotte and Charleston have joined
the rank
s of those who refuse Communion to pro-abortion Catholic public figures.
Again, I wonder aloud how many are for, against, or on the fence. I’m sure someone
in the vast horde of Catholic geeks on the Net has taken the trouble to keep a tally.
I suppose I might have to get off my lazy butt and do it myself. *sigh*

Choose Life

A caller on the Marty Minto
radio show offered an idea for pro-life T-shirts, in answer to Planned Parenthood’s
marketing of callousness. She said that she was pregnant as a sophomore in college
and chose to not abort her child, despite the pressure put on her to do so. Her
son is now in his twenties and she’d like to see him, and others like him, wear a
shirt that says, “My mom chose life.” I’d like to see that, too.
