Abortion as Contraception

The Washington Post reports that more women are eschewing birth control. Several possible causes for this trend are offered. I have another. Perhaps more women are avoiding prophylactics because of nasty side effects or other unpleasantness and because there is increasing acceptance of abortion as "last chance" birth control. Of course, I’m just speculating since I have no data on the matter. What do you think?

At Cross-Purposes

For one segment of society, the
live birth of a baby at 26 weeks is cause for celebration. For another, abortion
after 26 weeks is exercising the “right to choose”
. When and how will
our society resolve this conflict?

World’s smallest baby ready to go home

CHICAGO (AP) — A baby who weighed less than a can of soda when she was born by Caesarean section three months ago is nearly ready to be released from the hospital. She is believed to be the smallest baby in the world ever to survive.

How to stop the attack on abortion rights

THE BUSH administration thinks it has political “capital.” And it plans on spending some to destroy women’s right to choose abortion.

Tucked away in the omnibus spending bill approved by Congress last month was a provision that would allow physicians, hospitals, HMOs and insurance plans to opt out of giving abortion referrals, as they currently are required to. This provision will especially affect poor women, who rely on federally funded health care.

Abortion: Round 1,523,361

I’ve been engaged in a knock-down-drag-out on the subject over The Anti-Manicheist. He’s a good centrist Christian blogger who is (in my opinion) just a bit too accommodating on Seamless Garment of Life issues. I’d encourage interested readers to head over and help me out, or… club me over the (virtual) head, as the case may be.

Europe

I found it amusing that in this review of Jeremy
Rifkin’s hagiography of the EU
, the only suggestion to help combat
his beloved
EU’s population implosion was to have more non-EU immigrants come
in (does
he really want an Islamic Europe while he’s at it? Will Italians dig the
“halal
prosciutto” from their local butcher?).

Now there’s one time-honored tradition for curing a low population that
the Economist
implied that Rifkin didn’t mention, and it’s HAVE MORE BLEEDING
CHILDREN!

Linguistic Gymnastics

God forbid they call this “fetus” what it really is – a child. If an 8-month fetus survives a C-section, it’s called a baby. If it survives being removed by psychos, it’s still a fetus. If a child dies after birth, it’s called a dead baby. If it dies after a murder and amateur surgery, would it be called a dead fetus? How can Conner Peterson be called a murdered unborn child, but Jane Doe Stinnett was a fetus until found alive? Either it’s a baby or it isn’t. Make up your freakin’ minds!
