Sunday, Bloody Sunday?

A friend of mine brought an interesting point during a conversation this evening.
He said that the outcome of the Spanish election was directly affected by the terror
attacks there. He thinks the same may happen here if Bush is strongly leading in
polls close to the election. Maybe I’ve just had my head in the sand (or perhaps
the clouds), but I hadn’t thought of that scenario. Will our country be rocked by
a major terrorist attack during the weekend prior to the presidential election?

Read these stories and drop me a line. I have no firm opinion or agenda related
to this topic. I’m curious to hear any serious commentary and discussion.

China
silences Tiananmen critics

Police are quickly clamping down on attempts to mark the crackdown

A leading Chinese doctor who criticised the Communist Party’s 1989 Tiananmen Square
crackdown has disappeared on the eve of its 15th anniversary.

Why do we (as a nation) keep ignoring China’s horrendous human rights record and
continue to trade so heavily with them?

If communism is so right and the Chinese government is so great, they shouldn’t
need to make people disappear to stop “dangerous” opinions. Mao forbid
people be free to think for themselves and protest openly.

O’Malley
hits plan for death penalty

P. O’Malley yesterday blasted Governor Mitt Romney’s proposal to restore capital
punishment by creating a system in Massachusetts that would be ‘as infallible
as humanly possible.'”
