SUV Drivers = Terrorists?

Ah…You know how if you want to destroy someone's credibility, you inflate certain things they say and create a strawman? Well, some people kindly do that for you, and advocate such crackbrained things you just have to tell the truth and people who aren't complete knobs will be appropriately disgusted/angered/contemptuous.

Well, ladies and gentleman, Peter Singer of Princeton is one of those people, and this time our lionized Princeton ethicist claims that SUV drivers are morally equivalent to the 9/11 terrorists. Blondes Vanishing?

Blondes Headed for Extinction? UN Agency Demurs

“UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) – In the end, it seems it was just another dumb blond joke. The World Health Organization, the Geneva-based health arm of the United Nations, insisted on Tuesday that despite the many media reports to the contrary, it had never conducted a study predicting the extinction of the natural blond hair gene. This despite stories around the world citing WHO research stating that natural blonds would become extinct by 2202.”

If blondes did become extinct, might we see a gradual increase in human intelligence? 😉

Big Brother P2P

New P2P network funded by US government

"A team of government-funded US scientists is building a Peer-2-Peer (P2P) network that they say will solve technical problems with existing P2P networks, such as Gnutella and Kazaa, and might even one day supersede the web."

"The network, dubbed the Infrastructure for Resilient Internet Systems (IRIS), will speed up searches and information transfer over the internet, and aims to foil 'Denial of Service' attacks by hackers – in which a web server is swamped with requests for a page until it crashes."

Un-Bear-able

Arctic pollution causing polar bears to change sex
By Charles Arthur

Polar bears, Arctic foxes and Inuit peoples are under threat from man-made toxins such as polychlorinated byphenyls (PCBs) that build up in the food chain, new research reveals.

Environmental and animal groups are calling for a global ban on the production of the chemicals to safeguard the future health of those groups. Some scientists believe the PCBs are leading to “gender-bender” polar bears in Norway and Greenland, after the discovery of a number of female bears which had both male and female sexual organs.
