See here [ http://www.firstthings.com/onthesquare/?p=1130 ] for a good review/commentary of the movie at First Things comparing the movie to classic film noir.

The last three paragraphs are the best.

I enjoyed the Dark Knight, I liked the action, acting and due to the subject and intensity of the movie was left feeling somewhat disturbed for the rest of the evening. I'm surprised that your analogy did not occur to me. I don't disagree with anything you said but had a completely different take on the movie. Several times I found the militant propaganda to be so overt that it broke my suspension of disbelief. I wrote down my initial reactions the next day. My initial list of analogys is below:

Sonar imaging computer – Domestic Surveillance, FISA, Warrant-less wiretap

Two face death coverup – Pat Tillman Death Cover up, the need to preserve the image of a hero

Fall Guy Hero Harvey Dent – Scotter Libby taking the fall, Paul Wolfowitz taking the fall and later getting a medal

Parable about mad jewel thief and burning down the forest – collateral damage, dropping a bomb to get one guy

People can’t be trusted with all the information – Sex Ed, Drug Ed

Mad men cannot be reasoned with -
