Into the Frey

So much for accountability. Frey won't admit he lied. Oprah won't admit she was duped, nor that Frey is ultimately responsible, not the publishers (though they are somehwat culpable as well). Larry King won't admit he's a has-been and a suck-up.

The publisher is offering a refund for the book, which sounds like taking responsibility. They may be reluctant to say anything official until more or known, or for fear that someone will sue them.

Doubleday suggested on Tuesday it was unconcerned about the book's accuracy. "Memoir is a personal history," the publisher said in a statement. "By definition, it is highly personal.

"He represented to us that his version of events was true to his recollections," Doubleday said.

Well, one repentance is better than the zero repentances mentioned in the original post, yes? I try to cling to some optimism. :)
